Moscone Center Art Project – The expansion of the Moscone Center by the City of San Francisco includes an art display along two sides of the new building. This display consists of a moving frame to which is mounted a 16’ x 30’ video screen.  The motion of the frame and the images on the screen are programmable allowing the assembly to make continuous back-and-forth trips along the sides of the building.

 

POL-X West was contracted to provide engineering of the electromechanical portion of the system including design and FEA analysis of the structural frame to account for normal running loads and local wind and seismic conditions, suspension of the video display screen on the frame, guide wheel assemblies, track guideways, management of cable connections to the moving frame, all electrical controls for the motion of the frame, and control of interfaces with building structures.  The contract also included supervision of manufacturing and installation as well as commissioning of the completed system.
