dedicated to the application of the latest technology to the design, analysis, and
project management of transportation systems.
Our engineers have been engaged in the field of transportation for as
long as 40 years and have experience from working directly for manufacturers of
aerial tramways, funiculars, people movers and amusement rides. The
depth of experience of our engineers allows us to offer comprehensive
professional engineering services to our clients, including:

- Supervision of System Manufacturer
- Engineering Services for Legal Proceedings, Expert Witness
- Design, Analysis, and Detailing of Complete Systems or Subsystems
Examples of projects for which POL-X West has provided engineering services are:
- Project Management for the Sacramento Municipal
Utility District of the Loon Lake Funicular rebuild, Loon Lake,
California, USA – 1999. The
engineering scope for this project included the completion of the
specification for the new system, supervision of the bidding process,
review of the selected supplier’s design, and commissioning of the
completed system
- Feasibility study and specification development
for the Tung Chung Cable Car aerial tramway system in Hong Kong, PRC –
1999. This project, for the
overall project management company Booz-Allen, consisted of the development of specifications and
recommendation of the appropriate type of aerial tramway system for the
client, including feasibility and cost studies.
- Consultation for Engineering portion of ropeway
proposal for the Tirupathi Gondola Project, Tirupathi, India – 2002. POL-X West, Inc. provided the technical
support and ropeway expertise for the proposal (pending) by Y2K Energy
International, a leading transportation development firm in India.
- Legal Consultation Services for the Angels
Flight Funicular accident investigation, Los Angeles, California, USA –
2001. Expert engineering services
were provided to the legal team investigating the causes and circumstances
of the accident which occurred in 2001.
POL-X West has also submitted a proposal (pending) for the project
management of the refurbishment set to begin in 2002.
- Detroit Airport Automated People Mover (APM)
Reliability Analysis, Detroit, Michigan, USA – 2000. A detailed reliability assessment was completed
to evaluate the availability of the new system, the mean time between
failures, and the mean time to restore operations after failure. Services were provided on behalf of the
system supplier, POMA-Otis corporation.
- Analysis of the cable at compound curves for
the J.P. Getty APM, Los Angeles, California, USA - 1994. Dynamic analysis of rope behavior for
the system supplier, POMA-Otis
corporation.
- Project Management, Professional Engineering
Services for the refit of the Jasper Tramway in Jasper, Alberta, Canada –
2003. POL-X West provided the
professional engineering supervision of the design of the modified
portions of the tramway, including review of drawings and calculations,
NDT procedures for reused
equipment, supervision of the supplier, and professional engineering
certification of the final configuration.
